Getting around Liverpool
Sightseeing and Getting around Liverpool
Liverpool is a city on the move, and the planes soaring overhead, vessels on the Mersey waves and trains, buses, cars and bicycles prove what mobile people we are.
And it's easy to get out of Liverpool - which we mean in the nicest possible way. If you want to make the most of your stay to explore our wider city region (and it would be a shame not to), there are a number of options available to you.
Car
Obviously, if you have your own car, or hire one, the road and motorway links are excellent, especially to destinations
such as Knowsley, St.Helens and Halton.
Sea
Another excellent way to get to Wirral is by using one of the Mersey Ferries. The river crossing is used by many as a
simple way to commute from one side of the water to the other, on a direct route that takes only ten minutes.
Train
Our train network is superb. From Lime Street Station, using both mainline services and our own Merseyrail network, you can easily access stations at Widnes, Runcorn and St.Helens, as well as stops in Knowsley. You can also either walk, or catch the underground, to other key city centre stations.
From Central and Moorfields stations, you can travel up to Southport, down to South Liverpool, or over to the Wirral.
James Street also offers access to the Wirral stations.

Bus
There are two main bus terminals - Queen Square and Paradise Street - as well as numerous stops, stands and dropoff points in the city. You can travel out across the whole region using the bus, and many of them are modern low-floor types, great for those with limited mobility or if you have a pushchair or luggage.
