Penny Lane Road Sign The Beatles 1 album, a greatest hits collection released in 2000, sold almost 30 million copies worldwide and was No. 1 in the album charts of 30 countries - 30 years after they split (when John and Ringo were 30). The album Please Please Me spent 30 weeks at the top of the charts.

Penny Lane Road SignThe Beatles sold a record 20.8 million singles in the UK and Beatles music is the most downloaded.

 

Penny Lane Road SignShe Loves You became the UK's biggest selling single in 1963 and held the position until 1977 when it was beaten by Wings' Mull of Kintyre. Band Aid's 1984 Do They Know It's Christmas? (which featured McCartney on the B-side) smashed that record. The current holder is Candle in the Wind, so Kintyre remains the best-selling non-charity single.

Penny Lane Road SignDuring August Bank Holiday weekend, Liverpool hosts a festival in homage to the Fab Four, with international artists and fans converging on Liverpool to perform or simply be where it all started.
