Every year during September buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors to visitors. Heritage Open Days offer a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring local history and culture alive for everyone. Liverpool is extending Heritage Open Days to eleven days of heritage activities. Between the 10-20 September, buildings of interest will be open throughout Liverpool. There will be a whole programme of tours andfamily friendly events, so that everyone can enjoy their local heritage.
Heritage Open Days are co-ordinated nationally by English Heritage. Liverpool's programme is organised by Liverpool City Council. However, Heritage Open Days could never happen without the enthusiasm and expertise of local people. Nationally, thousands of volunteers will open theirproperties, organise activities and share their knowledge. To everyone in Liverpool who has contributed to our 2009 Heritage Open Days programme, we say a big 'thank you'.
Inevitably, the listings in this brochure will miss some openings as new properties want to get involved later on.
For the very latest Liverpool Heritage Open Days information please visit the national Heritage Open Days programme at www.heritageopendays.org.uk or call 0844 335 1884.
Co-ordinated nationally by the Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage, Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access (or free events) to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
