Submerge yourself in Liverpool’s historic seafaring past at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Located in the heart of the Albert Dock, it’s the ideal location to explore and uncover the development of the world famous port. Boats, paintings, ship models, ship wrecked objects, uniforms and more.

Merseyside Maritime Museum brings Liverpool’s nautical history to life. Discover the city's pivotal role as the gateway to the new world.

Highlights include the Life at Sea display, telling the story of the merchant navy. Children and and families can learn about Liverpool's role in The Battle of the Atlantic during World War Two.

Throughout the museum you’ll find exhibits, trails and free events perfect for the little ones.

The Pilot’s Challenge 
3, 7, 14 January - 1 - 4pm 
Navigating ships on the River Mersey is a very dangerous job so the river pilots who take charge have many things to think about. Have a go at our challenge and find out.

Joseph Johnson’s hat crafts 
27, 30 December, 2 January - 1 - 4pm 
Joseph Johnson was a Black sailor in London in the early nineteenth century who was a famous sight by the docks wearing his enormous sailing ship hat. Come and create your own to take home! 

Fashions and fortunes 
4 January - 1 - 4pm 
Take a look at the experiences of different people on board the Titanic. Learn about the fashions they might have worn and the objects that were important to them. 

Polar, the Titanic bear 
5 January - 1, 2, 3pm 
Hear about the adventures of Polar, the Titanic bear - based on a story originally written by Titanic survivor Daisy Corning Stone Spedden for her son.

Sam’s musical voyage 
6 January - at intervals, 1 - 4pm 
Join Sam, a sailor from Africa and discover musical instruments from all the places Sam visits on his voyage. 

Lights out, Liverpool! 
7 January - 1.30, 2.30, 3.30pm 
Meet Jim Coleman, the sailor turned ARP warden, to hear some of the heroic tales that happened at sea during the Battle of the Atlantic, as well as here in Liverpool in the May Blitz of the Second World War.

Throughout the festive period, a number events for children will be taking place!

Everyone loves a tale of adventure, of places near and far. Join the Seized! storyteller and help them bring these stories to life. Ideal for accompanied children aged four and over.

Model magic

The Border Force help to protect endangered species, go along to find out more and make a clay model of your favourite animal.

Save our species
3, 4 January - 1 - 4pm
Seized! demonstrators will explain how Customs protects endangered species and help you to make a souvenir to take away.

Cutter ship cards
6 January - 1 - 4pm
These are the fastest ships on the sea! Go along to the Gallery to create your own crafty cutter.
