Things To Do

Whatever time of the year you visit Liverpool, you won’t be short of things to do. But this Christmas it’s particularly magical and you definitely won’t want to miss out.

Our Christmas lights are nothing short of impressive, and from the moment you step off the train at Lime Street, right down to the world famous Albert Dock, you’ll be illuminated the entire way. Make sure you stop off at Bold Street to watch an ethereal display of light and sound. It remembers the history of St Luke’s Church which sits at the top of the street; or “the bombed out church”, as it’s better known amongst locals. A choreographed light show runs every half-hour.

And at Liverpool ONE, to see what’s believed to be the UK’s tallest Christmas tree. Towering at 30m, and with 280 colour-changing hearts, you’ve never seen anything like it. There’s even an alpine bar underneath the tree, complete with traditional themed huttes. Make it a Christmas to remember and have a go at their carol-oke over some mulled wine!

We’ve mentioned our huge range when it comes to shops but our once-a-year Christmas markets are ready and waiting to welcome you too, with Baileys hot chocolates, freshly made crepes and beautifully crafted handmade gifts.

We’re not without our culture, of course, and you can soak it up at the World Museum, Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool.

Visit the Cunard Building for The British Music Experience and see iconic music memorabilia from Freddie to Bowie. Beatles fans shouldn’t miss a visit to the Beatles Museum or the Cavern Club on Mathew Street, where the famous four started their journey to world stardom.

With no fewer than six theatres, we do love to put on a show. Enjoy some festive fun, and pantomines at the Liverpool Empire. Or for a thoroughly Liverpudlian take on the nativity story, visit the Liverpool’s Royal Court, will have you laughing until Christmas. A night at The Philharmonic Hall is unforgettable and we can’t wait to get into the festive spirit there.

For an even bigger performance, have a look at what’s on at the Echo Arena where there’s something for everyone.

The Liverpool International Horse Show is an annual highlight and a spectacle of the best in class for showjumping and dressage.

Take a look at our What’s On Guide for a quick glance at what’s happening this festive season.
